SHILLONG, JUN 12: Commuters in Shillong will face traffic restrictions on June 15 and 16 as East Khasi Hills Police roll out diversions for the North East India Infrastructure Summit & Exhibition 2026 at LARITI, Mawkasiaing and SRGT Parking Lot, Polo.

Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said the two-day event will see Union Ministers, VVIPs, delegates and exhibitors from across the North East and beyond, leading to heavy convoy movement. To manage the flow, police have asked the public to avoid the Umsawli – Mawkasiaing – NEIGRIHMS – Polo road during summit hours.

“Those travelling from Umsawli, Mawkasiaing, NEIGRIHMS and Nongmensong towards Polo are advised to use alternate routes via Mawpat – Golflinks / Langkyrding – Pynthorumkhrah to avoid delays,” the SP stated in a press release on Friday.

On June 15, ‘No Entry’ will be enforced at Lumjingshai junction. Vehicles heading to Forest Colony or CRPF junction will be redirected through Lawmali – Polo and beyond to keep the Polo area accessible for delegates.

“The cooperation and understanding of all citizens are solicited in ensuring the successful conduct of this important regional event. Inconvenience caused is highly regretted,” Syiem added.

Police expect major vehicular movement along the Polo-Mawkasiaing stretch due to VVIP movement, and have urged commuters to plan travel accordingly.
