SHILLONG, July 30: More than 2.24 lakh electors in Meghalaya will undergo detailed verification after their records could not be linked with the 2005 Special Intensive Revision (SIR) database.
The Election Department on Thursday announced the successful completion of the house-to-house enumeration covering the state’s entire electorate.
The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said all 23,49,645 electors in the state have been covered under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026, with an equal number of Enumeration Forms distributed and digitised, marking the completion of the first phase of the exercise.
However, the digitised data revealed that 2,24,234 electors (9.54%) could not be mapped to the 2005 electoral database and have been placed under the “No Mapping” category. These cases will now undergo detailed verification during the claims and objections period from August 5 to October 3, before a final decision is taken on their electoral status.
The data also shows that 7,75,337 electors (33%) were mapped as “Self”, while 11,69,670 electors (49.78%) were linked as “Progeny” using the electoral records of their parents or grandparents available in the 2005 database.
In another significant finding, election officials identified 1,80,404 electors (7.68%) under the Absent, Shifted, Deceased and Duplicate (ASDD) categories during the verification exercise. The list includes 81,490 deceased voters, 45,013 electors whose forms were not returned, 42,532 permanently shifted voters, 4,668 refusals, and 6,701 duplicate entries.
The Election Department said the next phase of the revision will focus on verifying the “No Mapping” and ASDD cases before the publication of the draft electoral roll on August 5, in accordance with the Election Commission of India’s schedule.
The Chief Electoral Officer thanked recognised political parties, Booth Level Agents (BLAs), district election officials, community leaders and citizens for their cooperation in successfully completing the statewide enumeration exercise, reaffirming the department’s commitment to preparing a clean, accurate and inclusive electoral roll.
