Chief Minister inspects Secretariat, Unity Mall and Sports Complex, stresses quality and timely completion.

Shillong, July 14: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Tuesday reviewed the progress of several flagship infrastructure projects in New Shillong, directing executing agencies to maintain quality, ensure safety and expedite construction to meet project timelines.

Accompanied by senior government officials, CM Sangma inspected the New Secretariat Complex, Unity Mall, the Sports Complex at Umsawli and other ongoing works in the New Shillong Township.

Reviewing the New Secretariat Complex, CM Sangma said the project would bring government departments under one roof, improving coordination, administrative efficiency and citizen service delivery once operational.

He also reviewed the progress of the Unity Mall, which is being developed to provide a dedicated marketplace for Meghalaya’s artisans, weavers, entrepreneurs, self-help groups and local producers. The project is expected to promote local enterprise, tourism and livelihood opportunities.

At the Umsawli Sports Complex, CM Sangma reiterated the government’s commitment to creating world-class sports infrastructure to nurture young talent and strengthen Meghalaya’s preparations for the 39th National Games.

During the review, the Chief Minister instructed all executing agencies to work in close coordination, adhere to construction schedules and maintain the highest standards of quality and safety.

“The projects being developed in New Shillong are laying the foundation for Meghalaya’s future. Investments in modern administrative, commercial and sports infrastructure will improve governance, create economic opportunities and enhance the quality of life for our people,” CM Sangma said.

The projects form part of the government’s long-term vision to develop New Shillong as a modern administrative, commercial and knowledge hub while decongesting Shillong city and strengthening public infrastructure.
