Shillong, June 25: Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita, on Wednesday said that over 10,000 members of insurgent groups in the North East region have surrendered and are contributing to nation-building.

Addressing media persons, Margherita highlighted the significant progress made in reducing insurgency-related violence in the region. “Casualties due to insurgencies have decreased by 85%, insurgent activities have decreased by 72%,” he stated.

The Union Minister attributed this success to the signing of peace accords with insurgent groups, saying that more than 12 such accords have been signed. “The entire North East is moving forward with other states and becoming part of Viksit Bharat,” he added.

Margherita also announced plans to improve connectivity in the region, stating that all state capitals will soon be connected by railway and air.
