SHILLONG, NOV 6: A Bolero Pick-up that knocked down a scooty rider at Mawlai and fled the scene has been caught on camera, prompting East Khasi Hills police to appeal to the victim and witnesses to come forward.
The incident occurred on November 1, 2026, at around 11:22 pm at SD Khongwir Junction, Mawlai Iewrynghep. A video of the accident has since gone viral on social media.
“As seen in the circulated video, a vehicle (Bolero Pick-up) collided with an oncoming two-wheeler (scooty) and thereafter fled the scene without stopping,” a statement said on Friday.
“The rider of the two-wheeler could, however, be seen getting back on his feet following the incident. Nevertheless, the nature and extent of any injuries sustained, if any, remains unknown,” it said.
Police said the incident has not been reported to the Traffic Branch so far.
In view of the seriousness of the matter, Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem has appealed to the victim/rider, or anyone having knowledge of the identity of the victim or any other information relating to the incident, to come forward and share details with his office or the Mawlai Traffic Branch at 69093 96417 / 60091 96479 to initiate appropriate legal proceedings against the vehicle involved and its driver.
Police have assured that the identity of any person providing information will be kept strictly confidential and shall not be disclosed.
“The cooperation of the public is earnestly solicited in the interest of road safety and ensuring accountability for such incidents,” the release said.
