Tight Security Measures for Shillong Parliamentary Seat Counting Day : Returning Officer SC Sadhu

Shillong, May 11: SC Sadhu, the Returning Officer for the Shillong Parliamentary seat and Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District, emphasized stringent enforcement of Section 144 on the upcoming counting day.

Sadhu stated, “We will strictly enforce Section 144 and minimize crowd gatherings, with no allowance for victory rallies.”

He stressed the importance of vigilant monitoring, noting, “The district administration will closely observe the counting center surroundings via video surveillance to prevent any potential law and order issues.”

Sadhu highlighted the significance of real-time information dissemination to combat misinformation, explaining, “To prevent misinformation, the results will be displayed live on screens across Shillong town by DIPR.” He reassured on security readiness, adding, “There is no anticipated need for additional CAPF; our existing forces are ample.”

The Returning Officer reiterated, “Like in Assembly elections, victory rallies will be restricted to avoid any instigation of violence.” He further detailed, “Outside the counting center, we will set up screens displaying real-time results to deter crowds.”

Sadhu emphasized proactive engagement with political parties, sharing, “Ten days before counting, we will meet with parties to ensure their cadres uphold peace and order during the procedure.”
