Jowai, Jan 20: Former Home Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui, on Saturday urged every citizen to embrace positivity for the collective development of the West Jaintia Hills district.
Speaking as the chief guest at the district level celebration of Meghalaya’s 52nd statehood day at the District Library Auditorium, Mynthong, organized by the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jowai, Rymbui, the current MLA of Amlarem constituency, talked about the contribution of the state founders and urged every citizen to embrace positivity for the collective development of the district. He provided updates on developmental works and government achievements in education, health, and infrastructure.
Stating the importance of avoiding drug abuse and social media pitfalls, he encouraged youths to leverage government schemes for their benefit.
Various dignitaries, including F.B Basan (Additional Deputy Commissioner), B. Blah (Additional Deputy Commissioner), C. Syrti (Superintendent of Police, WJH), H.H Mohrmen (Prominent Citizen, Jowai), and District Heads, attended the function.
Through a power point presentation, F.B Basan highlighted the developmental activities undertaken by different departments in the district. B. Blah, Additional Deputy Commissioner, provided a brief description of Meghalaya’s statehood formation.
S. Phanbuh, Assistant Commissioner, shared a brief history of the district, while H.H Mohrmen, also addressed the gathering.
During the program, academic achievers Reesa EE Christine Suting of North Liberty Higher Secondary School (11th position in SSLC) and Larisa Lamin of Adventist Higher Secondary School, Thadlaskein (1st position in HSSLC – Arts), were felicitated.
Other highlights included a dance performance by the Sein Raij Jowai and Self Help Group Members.
