Guwahati, Sept 12: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday described the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s alleged links with Pakistan as “explosive” and said it would be made public after cabinet discussion.

Speaking to reporters, Sarma said the 96-page report contains “many important documents related to the sovereignty of the country.” He added, “It is a very explosive report. A cartel was working to defame and undermine the development process of our country. Once the cabinet discusses it, we will release the report for public consumption and take the next step.”

The chief minister further alleged that a Pakistani citizen and “the British wife of the honourable MP” had played a significant role in the cartel. “Now it is completely clear. But it is for the cabinet to take the final call once the SIT report is placed,” Sarma said.

He added that the government would wait for the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections to conclude before taking further action.

The SIT, comprising senior police officers Munna Prasad Gupta, Rosie Kalita, Pranabjyoti Goswami and Maitrayee Deka, submitted the report to Sarma on Wednesday. The probe team was constituted on February 17 following a state cabinet decision to investigate the activities of Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and his associates.
