Itanagar, May 19: Omang Dodum, an emerging football player from Arunachal Pradesh, was awarded the Golden Boot in this year’s Reliance Foundation Development League (RFDL). Dodum plays for Punjab FC, the champion of the third season of the league. Omang Dodum scored 14 goals throughout the tournament.

Punjab FC won the trophy by defeating East Bengal FC in a thrilling 3-2 win in the finals played last night at the Reliance Corporate Park in Mumbai.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to social media platform X to express his admiration and congratulations to Dodum. He stated: “Superb Sunday! Heartiest congratulations to Omang Dodum on clinching the Golden Boot Award for Punjab FC with a massive 14 goals score in the Reliance Foundation Development League. You are a towering inspiration for aspiring soccer players. Keep excelling, and best wishes for your continued success.”

It is worth mentioning that In 2017, Dodum was selected to play in the Under-14 Futsal World Cup held in Barcelona, Spain, but he was unable to participate due to visa issues. Despite this setback, he continued to excel, earning a spot in the national team for the AFC Asian Cup in Thailand in 2023. His dedication and hard work have been evident in his training with the Punjab FC Academy over the past few years.

Omang Dodum’s achievement inspires many young players in India, particularly those from Arunachal Pradesh and Northeast.

The Reliance Foundation Development League is India’s first developmental football league, organized by the Reliance Foundation in collaboration with the All India Football Federation. The league aims to nurture young footballing talent across the nation.
