Meghalaya CM inaugurates Nongstoin Durbar Hall, highlights role of traditional institutions in development

Shillong, April 15: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday inaugurated the new Nongstoin Durbar Hall in West Khasi Hills, underlining the importance of collaboration between government and traditional institutions in driving grassroots development.

The inauguration ceremony at New Nongstoin was attended by Nongstoin MLA G. Wahlang, Rambrai MLA R. G. Momin, MDC and Headman S. Rashir, and Dorbar Shnong Secretary G. Marbaniang, among others.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister described the Durbar Hall as a product of collective effort by the community and local leadership. “This beautiful hall is an example of how the community and elected representatives can come together to create something meaningful,” he said.

Sangma stressed that sustainable and inclusive development in Meghalaya hinges on close coordination between the government and traditional bodies such as the Dorbar Shnong. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting local institutions in their initiatives for community welfare.

The newly inaugurated hall is expected to serve as a key space for community meetings, decision-making, and cultural activities, strengthening grassroots governance in the region.
