SHILLONG, NOV 6: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) enforced a shutdown of banks, post offices, and private offices in Shillong on Thursday after finding them operational despite the Nongkrem Dance festival being declared a state holiday.

KSU activists took swift action, shutting down institutions that defied the holiday declaration.

The shutdown affected various areas in Shillong, including Upper Shillong, Lumdiengjri, Motphran, Khyndai Lad, Keating Road, Laitumkhrah, Nongthymmai, Nongmensong, and other parts of the city.

The KSU has warned all concerned institutions to respect the cultural sentiments and festivals of the indigenous people. In a statement, the union emphasized that failure to do so would render it pointless for central offices and companies to operate in the region.
