James Sangma takes oath as Meghalaya’s lone Rajya Sabha MP

SHILLONG, JUL 20: National People’s Party (NPP) national working president and former Dadenggre legislator James Pangsang Kongal Sangma on Monday took oath as Meghalaya’s lone Rajya Sabha MP.

The oath was administered by Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan.

James took the oath in Hindi.

He was accompanied by his brother and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, along with other party leaders.

In a post on X, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma said:
“Accompanied my brother Shri @JamesSangma1 during his oath taking ceremony as Hon’ble Rajya Sabha MP from Meghalaya. Wishing him Godspeed on his new role. May he be the voice of our people and continue to contribute meaningfully to our state and nation.”

The NPP also congratulated its leader on the new responsibility.

“Heartiest congratulations to James Pangsang K Sangma on taking the oath as the newly elected Rajya Sabha Member from Meghalaya,” the party posted.

“Wishing him strength, wisdom, and every success as he carries the voice and aspirations of the people of Meghalaya to the nation’s highest forum.”

James Sangma, a two-time former MLA from Dadenggre and ex-state cabinet minister, was elected unopposed to the Upper House earlier last month.
