SHILLONG, MAY 27: The Jaiñtia National Council (JNC) 7Shnong Circle has raised alarm over several old and unstable electric poles in Rangad village, saying they threaten pedestrians and a nearby household.
A delegation led by incharge secretary Bah Mehi Rymbai met the MePDCL Sub-Divisional Officer on Wednesday to demand urgent replacement of the poles.
“We demanded that the SDO of MePDCL replace without delay the electric posts that are nearly broken in Rangad village,” Rymbai said after the meeting.
The JNC said the poles have weakened over time and now lean dangerously, with one located just meters from a residential house.
“If such posts are not replaced immediately, they will pose a grave danger to the lives of people passing by, especially to the household situated very close to one of the posts,” Rymbai told the SDO.

Residents fear the poles could collapse during the monsoon or strong winds, potentially snapping live wires and causing electrocution or property damage.
The SDO assured the delegation that the department would treat the matter as a priority.
“The SDO promised to take the matter seriously and said he would act on the organization’s demand at the earliest in the coming days for the welfare and safety of the public,” the JNC said.
The JNC 7Shnong Circle said it will monitor the situation and follow up with MePDCL to ensure the replacements are carried out without further delay.
