SHILLONG, AUG 23: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has welcomed the decision of the state’s taxi associations to temporarily call off their protests following discussions with Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and the state government.

Sangma said the development followed “constructive engagement and cooperation” among the government, taxi associations, officials and other stakeholders.

The Chief Minister said the government would continue working with all concerned parties to ensure normal movement, commuter safety and a peaceful resolution to issues arising from the recent Assam-Meghalaya tensions.

The statement comes after taxi associations agreed to resume normal movement between Meghalaya and Assam until September 10, when a joint meeting involving transport authorities and taxi representatives from both states is expected to address their grievances.

Sangma appealed to all sections to maintain peace, restraint and normalcy as efforts continue to resolve the inter-state transport dispute.
