Jowai, June 6: The tragic death of a pregnant woman at the 100-Bedded Maternity and Child Health Hospital in Panaliar, Jowai has sparked widespread reaction.

President of the Meghalaya BJP Mahila Morcha, Susuki Pariat, in a statement, expressed deep concern over the situation and urged the government to take concrete steps to ensure that such incidents donot recur.

“We appeal to the State Government to address these critical issues without delay to prevent further loss of life. We also encourage citizens to take advantage of the Central Government’s Ayushman Bharat scheme, which provides access to quality healthcare at affordable costs,” the statement said.

The office bearers of the Mahila Morcha also met with Delina Khongdup, a member of the National Commission for Women (NCW), to apprise her of the incident.

“We met with NCW member Delina Khongdup and informed her of the unfortunate incident. She has called upon the concerned authorities to conduct regular inspections of all healthcare facilities to ensure proper functioning and accountability,” Pariat said.

The Health Department has constituted a magisterial probe into the incident. Authorities have stated that if the hospital is found guilty of clinical negligence, action will be initiated.
