New Delhi, Sept 19: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma attended the two-day Conference of State Finance Ministers and Finance Secretaries on “Financing India’s Journey towards Viksit Bharat” at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

The conference, organised by the Union Ministry of Finance on September 18-19, brought together representatives of states and Union Territories to discuss financing challenges and development priorities.

Deliberations focused on strengthening public finances, innovative financing mechanisms, agricultural transformation, energy transition, technology and measuring economic growth through Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).

Sangma said the discussions were particularly relevant to Meghalaya’s economic priorities under Mission 10, the state’s development agenda aimed at creating opportunities, strengthening infrastructure, supporting livelihoods and enterprises, and building a more resilient and sustainable economy.

He said platforms such as the conference provide Meghalaya an opportunity to learn from other states, engage with experts and explore new approaches to financing development as the state works towards its 2032 vision.

The conference also examined issues including private financing, GST 2.0 and its implications for states, agricultural markets, renewable energy and transmission infrastructure, and new-age technology in governance.

Sangma thanked Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and other speakers and participants for the deliberations.
