SHILLONG, SEPT 14: The Directorate of Health Services will publish a fresh MBBS and BDS allotment list for 2026-27 tomorrow after withdrawing the earlier list following allegations of merit violation raised by the Jaintia Students’ Union.
Director of Health Services Dr L Mylliem Umlong gave the assurance during a meeting with a delegation of JSU on Monday, after the union pointed out serious anomalies in the allotment notified vide No. DHSMER.150/MBBS Admission/2026-27/5607.
The JSU delegation was led by education secretary Bocheru Mi Pohsnem along with assistant education Secretary Pysnhailang Suliang, executive member Borntifulson Rupon and Shillong Circle member Jefferson Shylla.
The union alleged that the department allotted seats in premier institutes like NEIGRIHMS to candidates with lower NEET scores while ignoring higher-ranked candidates who had opted for the same college.
“For example, a candidate at Serial No. 30 scoring 439 marks got NEIGRIHMS, but several candidates above him who had opted for NEIGRIHMS were not allotted the institute. This is a direct violation of merit,” the JSU said.
The JSU also raised the issue of non-disclosure of the Standard Operating Procedure. It said despite submitting recommendations last year and following up via email, the updated SOP promised by the department was never released.
“Officials admitted that the allotment was carried out as per a newly approved SOP which has not been notified to the public. They ignored the transparent procedure laid down in September 2025,” the union said.
The department has now asked students who have faced discrepancies in choice allotment to immediately file their grievances by email to [email protected].
The window will remain open till 10 pm today so that the complaints can be considered while rearranging the list.
The JSU said it will remain vigilant till the process is completed in a fair manner.
“Our demand is simple — no favour, no special consideration. The allotment must be strictly merit-based, must honour the choice of college opted by the students and must follow a transparent, officially notified SOP,” the JSU added.
