Shillong, April 30: The body of the 15-year-old girl who was swept away by strong currents near Weisawdong Falls was recovered on Thursday morning.
The teenager, a resident of Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh, had gone missing after being carried away by the waters on Wednesday. Her body was located this morning.
According to reports, local residents first spotted the body at around 7:30 am and immediately alerted the police. A joint team comprising the Police Search and Rescue Team, Fire and Emergency Services and personnel from Sohra Police Station launched the retrieval operation and successfully recovered the body at around 10 am.

The body was later taken to Sohra Community Health Centre for post-mortem examination.
The teenager had travelled to Sohra with her family for a holiday, but the trip ended in tragedy. She reportedly slipped while attempting to take a photograph near the falls, fell into the river and was swept away by the strong current.
Although police launched a search operation on Wednesday, they were unable to locate her until Wednesday morning.
