SHILLONG, MAR 2: The Meghalaya High Court on Monday gave authorities three weeks to propose concrete steps to curb drug addiction among children in the state.

Passing an order after hearing a PIL filed by Mewaker Lyngdoh, the division bench comprisng Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice W Diengdoh noted that the state Chief Secretary constituted a monitoring committee on December 16, 2025, with a first meeting held three days later.

An Additional Advocate General said the committee would suggest actions within three weeks to begin prevention and rehabilitation efforts.

The court allowed the petitioner to implead Customs, the border security force (BSF) and the Narcotics Control Bureau as respondents.

DSGI Dr N Mozika accepted notice and sought time for instructions.

The bench posted the matter to April 7, directing respondents to place reports on implementation measures.

“Stand over to 7th April, 2026, to enable the learned
Advocates appearing for the respective respondents to place reports before this Court with respect to the implementation undertaken by the authorities to address the drug menace and the steps taken for rehabilitation of drug addicts,” the order stated.

An affidavit filed by the BSF was taken on record.
