Dibrugarh, July 27: A tragic incident unfolded in Dibrugarh on Sunday afternoon when a 7-year-old boy died after falling into an uncovered fire safety tank at a residential complex.

The deceased has been identified as Tejas Beriwal Agarwal, a resident of Mariani in Jorhat. He had come to Dibrugarh with his family to visit his grandfather’s house for his father’s medical treatment.

According to reports, Tejas was playing with a ball at the Amba Heights complex when the ball rolled into an uncovered fire safety tank. In an attempt to retrieve it, the child accidentally fell into the tank.

“The boy had been missing since around 3 PM. While searching for him, one of the residents noticed a sandal floating in the open tank. Tejas was pulled out and rushed to a private hospital in Dibrugarh, but doctors declared him brought dead,” said a resident of the housing complex.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who allege gross negligence on the part of the building owner.

“There is no CCTV camera, no security, and no safety measures in the complex.

A few years ago, a senior citizen also died after falling from the top floor. Yet, nothing has changed,” said Sujit Deb, a resident of Amba Heights.

The building is reportedly owned by Rajen Lohia. Residents claim that no society has been formed for the upkeep of the premises, and basic safety protocols have been ignored.

Family members of the deceased have complained to the Milan Nagar police outpost. Locals are demanding a thorough investigation into the matter and accountability for the safety lapses.

“Who is responsible for this child’s death? Why was the tank left uncovered?
The district administration must initiate an inquiry,” said a concerned citizen.
