Shillong, Feb 13: National People’s Party (NPP) national general secretary and deputy chief minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Thursday urged the people of Jaintia Hills region to vote for NPP in the forthcoming ADC elections because it is a party that “works more and talk less”.
Addressing at an election campaign at Iongkaluh village to garner support for Phasmon Dkhar, two-time MDC and party candidate from Musniang-Rangad, Dhar said, “During election, other political parties will come and make big promises but you should remember that the NPP is a party that engages in only 2% talk but 98% work.”
“There are those who alleged that the NPP is indulging in dictatorship and biasness but if we are really doing so why should we pumped in crores of rupees development in a constituency like Khliehriat, which has an MLA, who is from the United Democratic Party (UDP). We are sanctioning crores of rupees development for the interest and welfare of the people. Therefore, I urge the people to make wise decision before casting their vote. This is because one vote has a validity of over 1825 days meaning five years,” he said.
Also appealing to the people of Iongkaluh to repose their faith in the NPP by re-electing Dkhar again, the deputy CM said, “I urge the people to vote for him (Dkhar) if you want a double engine government. Not only that, vote for him because he is a very experienced leader and is an executive member, who is very hardworking and has contributed so much to the constituency and the region.”
“Therefore, ensure he gets more than 1200 votes and after the election, he can always disturb me anything relating to your village,” assured Dhar.
Further, the NPP leader said there is no need to be afraid of the opposition Voice of the People Party (VPP) because only those who doesn’t want real development will vote for them.
“I also take this opportunity to appeal to all the people not to waste their vote based on “good election songs” but to cast their vote for development,”he said while claiming that the NPP has been able to bring development worth crores and crores of rupees during the last seven years of leading the government in the state.
“People are throwing allegations at us because we are a government that performs. A government which does not have to deal with allegations is a government that does not perform at all. Therefore, I urge you to vote for the NPP for a stable government,” he said.
Dhar also predicted that the VPP will not cross single digit in the upcoming ADC polls and said, “This time I don’t think that they can win more than 6 seats because people have understood that it is a waste to win if there is no development.”
Speaking during the meeting, Phasmon Dkhar assured to continue giving development to the constituency if re-elected and said, “There are still many issues that I need to take care if elected and this will be possible only if you repose your faith in me as your MDC.”
