NPP Manipur president and MLA N. Kayisii passes away at 58

Imphal, Jan 18: The National People’s Party (NPP) President of Manipur Unit and Makhan Khuman Tadubi Constituency MLA, N. Kayisii, 58 years of age passed away on Saturday afternoon after battling a prolonged illness.

Following the news of his death, a wave of grief swept through Imphal as well-wishers, party members and fellow politicians gathered at his residence in Lamphel to pay their respects.

Expressing his sorrow, Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP national president, Conrad K. Sangma, on social media wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Shri N. Kayisii, President of the NPP Manipur State Unit and MLA of Makhan Khuman Tadubi Constituency. He had also served as a Minister in the Manipur Government from 2017 to 2020. A humble servant of the people, Shri Kayisii’s demise is a tremendous loss to the people of Manipur and to the entire NPP family,” he wrote.

Sangma described Kayisii as “a man of the masses” and lauded his invaluable contributions to the party and his constituency. “We have lost an able leader. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and supporters. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh also expressed his grief, writing on Facebook, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Shri N. Kayisii, the respected MLA of Tadubi AC. His service to the people of Manipur and his commitment to the well-being of our state will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, loved ones, and all who held him in high regard. May his soul rest in peace.”

Kayisii, first elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly from Tadubi in 2017, was re-elected in 2022. He had been serving as the state unit president of the NPP since March 2021. Known for his dedication and leadership, he was instrumental in strengthening the party’s foothold in the state.

Survived by his wife and eight children, Kayisii leaves behind a legacy of service and commitment. A condolence ceremony will be held at the NPP party office in Imphal on Sunday, following which his mortal remains will be taken to his native village in Tadubi for the final rites.
