Union Cabinet approves ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal; Bill expected in winter session

Shillong, Sept 18: The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal, which seeks to synchronize Lok Sabha and state assembly elections across the country.

A Bill concerning the proposal is anticipated to be introduced in the upcoming winter session of Parliament.

The initiative follows the recommendations of a high-level panel, chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind, which advocated for simultaneous elections during a report submitted in March.
