Agartala, June 10: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Monday staged a massive protest at Tripura’s Ujjayanta Palace against the alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2024 result.

The ABVP members, holding posters and banners, protested against the National Testing Agency (NTA) for conducting the exam despite being aware of the anomalies.

The protesters carried signs and shouted slogans, demanding a “fair review” of the exam process. They also alleged ‘paper leak, hijacking of exam centres, and giving grace marks.’

The announcement of the NEET UG 2024 results on June 4 has raised widespread concerns among students and parents, leading to protests across India.

Following the results announcement, numerous students questioned the number of top scorers and the awarding of grace marks while also alleging a possible paper leak. However, the NTA has denied these allegations, stating that the paper was relatively easier this year.

Speaking to reporters, Gourav Das, ABVP convenor of Tripura Central University, said, “NTA conducts the NEET exams every year, and doctors are selected through this exam. However, this year, many allegations have surfaced before the exam, including the paper leak issue. Police have arrested some persons in connection with the issue, but the NTA still conducted the exam. It has also come to light that some centres were hijacked by some students who received extra facilities.”

“The NTA was well aware that something had gone wrong, and to hide such things, they announced that those who lost time during the exam would be rewarded with 40 marks. It’s like freebies, it’s an important exam where if someone gets a single mark, their rank will be higher. By giving free marks in a sensitive exam, the NTA has degraded the level of the exam, and it’s a big scam. We demand a CBI inquiry into this incident,” Das said.
