Imphal, Feb 28: The internet shutdown in Manipur is posing serious concerns as authorities are facing problems to conduct examinations. The ethnic strife in Manipur has led to different problems including postponement of examinations.

Many students who were undergoing nursing in Imphal and other parts of the State have been displaced and were deprived of the examination held in the past.

The nursing council is conducting supplementary examinations for the displaced students in Churachandpur, however, the ban on the internet from February 16 is creating different hurdles.

On Wednesday, at least 55 GNM and ANM students displaced due to ethnic violence from Imphal and Thoubal had nearly missed their examination. However, with timely intervention by the Manipur Nursing Council (MNC) led by displaced Joint Director (Nursing) Lalbiekmawi, the examination was conducted as question papers reached just on time.

The supplementary exam for the nursing students is being held at Churachandpur GNM School. The examinations will end on March 2 and practical examinations will be conducted on March 4.

Talking to the media, Lalbiekmawi said that they have to spend sleepless nights in tension as they have to wait for relevant official orders from the authorities. “In today’s generation, nothing is possible without the internet,” she added.
