Imphal, Sept 6: As a preventive measure, total curfew has been reimposed in as many as five districts of violence-hit Manipur.
According to officials, curfew has been imposed in all five valley districts of Manipur.
“The curfew that came into effect on Tuesday has been reimposed in the five valley districts of Manipur as a preventive measure. Total curfew has been reimposed in Bishnupur, Kakching, Thoubal, Imphal West, and Imphal East districts of Manipur,” said an official.
The Manipur government also appealed to the COCOMI to cancel its proposed plan to storm the army barricade at Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district.

This decision was taken by the state government following the call by Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) requesting people from the valley districts to remove an army barricade at Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district.
Churachandpur Superintendent of Police Karthik Malladi said on Tuesday that additional forces have been deployed in the disturbed areas of the district to thwart any kinds of anti-social activities.
Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Karthik Malladi said, “Exchange of heavy fire, violence, and attempts to disturb the law and order in the fringed areas in certain places. The forces that were deployed could prevent such mass disturbances to the law and order situation.”
At least 150 people have been killed and over 400 people were wounded in the violence that began in May.
More than 60,000 people have been forced from their homes as the army, parliamentary forces, and police struggle to quell violence.
