Shillong, June 18: The village of Pyndengrei, Nongstoiñ mourns the loss of talented singer Cafinia Nongsiej and her little sister Maianylla Nongsiej, who lost their precious lives in the devastating landslide that struck Nongstoiñ early on Saturday morning.
The two siblings, in their sound sleep, were buried alive in the landslide. It was informed that, at the time of the incident, the father and two other siblings were also inside the hut but managed to escape to safety with only minor injuries, however, Cafinia and Maianylla were buried under the mountain of rubble.
Cafinia, in particular, a member of Tarari Kids Choir, was an up and coming singer who was poised to release her new song next week.
Gone Too Soon
At just 15 years old studying in class 10 of St. Peter’s Higher Secondary School, Nongstoiñ, Cafinia had her whole life ahead of her and showed immense promise as a vocalist and a student. Tragically, her blossoming musical career was cut short far too soon. A daughter of Alexander Lyngdoh and Beautiful Nongsiej, Cafinia was known for her angelic voice and heartfelt Gospel songs. Her music brought great joy to all those who heard it.
“Mynsiem ba dang lung”, a gospel song, was Cafinia Nongsiej’s last song, sung along with the Tarari choir.
Sadly, Cafinia’s voice has now been silenced, though her memory lives on in the hearts of her friends, family, and community. Though the village has suffered an irreplaceable loss, the memory of Cafinia’s beautiful songs and spirited performances will continue to bring joy to all who knew her. Her light may have been extinguished far too soon, but her songs play on.
