SHILLONG, OCT 27: Former Umroi MDC Albinus Lyngdoh on Monday extended support to former MP Vincent H Pala, saying the present MDA Government has failed to deliver benefits to the common people.

Lyngdoh said there is a strong reason to support Pala, as politics today is vastly different from the past.

“There is a reason to support Bah Vincent Pala because if we look at politics today and in the past, it is vastly different. On that basis I want to say that as of now I am not yet a Congress party member, but I am supporting him as a friend,” Lyngdoh said.

He alleged that the current government works only for self-interest.

“This present government brings only self-serving benefits, there is no benefit for the public. The government looks after only its own people. Only the high-level people benefit and get to earn, but for the poor, there is no benefit at all,” he said.

Lyngdoh said unemployment has become a major concern and people have started realising the value of Congress rule.

“The public now clearly understands the unemployment situation, now it has reached the hands of the public. Congress stays with the poor and the rich alike, but now all the people are saying there is a crisis,” he said.

“The public now has started to feel the pinch and now they have started to return to the Congress,” he added.

The former MDC said people in the upper areas feel Congress is better than other parties.

“When we ask the people, they say Congress is better than other parties, that is the voice of the people when I came from the upper areas,” he said.

Making an appeal to voters, Lyngdoh said, “We should not look only during election time, but we should look at what it has done for the public over five years. It has done nothing, therefore I appeal to the public to understand, because our community will live once again.”

On whether he will join the Congress, Lyngdoh clarified, “As of now I do not yet have the intention to join the Congress party, but I am supporting Bah Pala as a friend.”

Asked if he will contest the next KHADC elections, he said, “I will see how time unfolds, I cannot say yet because there is still time.”
