Sikkim Rain: Women killed after tree falls on her house due to strong wind

Gangtok, June 2: A 25-year-old woman died after a tree collapsed over her house due to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds in Sikkim’s lower Samdong village on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as Sarita Rai (25).

According to reports, the Samdong village was hit by heavy rainfall and strong winds at around 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM. Samdong village is about 27-28 km from the capital Gangtok.

The locals said the tragedy happened when the victim was in her kitchen when an uprooted tree crashed on her house killing her on the spot.

The deceased’s body was recovered from the incident spot with the assistance of Makha outpost police officials and locals.

Many trees were uprooted due to the heavy wind and blockade the roads causing problem for the movement of the people.

Restoration work has been going on in lower Samdong area.
