Shillong, May 12: The East Khasi Hills district administration has issued fresh traffic regulations ahead of the inauguration of the Umiam Bridge bypass on May 13, allowing the movement of commercial vehicles, including night super buses, through the new route from Umiam towards Shillong with effect from May 14.

In an order issued on Tuesday, Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills said the newly constructed bypass will be opened for traffic movement subject to a set of restrictions and conditions.

As per the order, commercial vehicles and night buses will be allowed to ply through the bypass only between 9:00 PM and 7:00 AM daily.

The administration has also barred the movement of articulated vehicles on the route.

Only rigid vehicles of up to three axles, with two tyres in the front axle and eight tyres in two tandem axles at the rear, will be permitted on the bypass, subject to a maximum gross vehicle weight of 28.5 tonnes.
