SHILLONG, SEPT 11: As many as 2,604 TB patients are currently undergoing treatment in Meghalaya, with 89 Ni-kshay Mitras supporting 328 of them.
Governor CH Vijayashankar on Friday distributed food baskets to 10 TB patients at Lok Bhavan under Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, conveying care and encouragement to those under treatment.
Additional Chief Secretary to Governor HC Chaudhary and NEDFi Chairman and Managing Director PVSLN Murty were present.
An official communique said community participation remains key to TB elimination.
“Since launch of Ni-kshay Mitra initiative in 2022, 452 Ni-kshay Mitras have come forward in Meghalaya, with 12,897 food baskets distributed benefiting 3,918 persons with TB,” it said.
NEDFi as Ni-kshay Mitra has extended sustained support.
Murty said NEDFi has worked for over 30 years on development initiatives including women employment and healthcare, and remains open to welfare initiatives.
He appreciated efforts of Government of India and Government of Meghalaya in providing facilities and treatment to TB patients.
Governor said sustained community support is crucial to achieve TB-free Meghalaya and TB-free India.
