Guwahati, April 28: In a coordinated interstate operation, Barpeta Police, working with Meghalaya Police, have apprehended three accused in connection with an ATM lifting and robbery case reported from Umiam earlier this month.

The arrests were made in connection with Umiam Police Station Case No. 20(4)2026 registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 305(a), 331(4), 324(5), 61(2)(b), and 3(5).

The accused have been identified as Jiarul Hoque, Amzad Ali, and Julhash Uddin. According to Barpeta Police, the trio—described as “veteran” offenders—were picked up from different locations across Barpeta district during the joint operation.

Police said the three were allegedly involved in an ATM lifting and robbery incident that took place in Umiam on April 6. Further investigation is underway to ascertain their role in other similar crimes and possible links to a larger network.

Officials termed the operation a significant breakthrough, highlighting effective coordination between Assam and Meghalaya police forces in tackling cross-border criminal activities.
