Shillong, June 6: The State Cabinet on Tuesday approved the setting up of a search committee for appointment of a five-member expert committee to review the 1972 state reservation policy.
Addressing the media, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the government has decided that the chief secretary will head the three-member search committee to look for experts, who will be members of the expert committee to review the reservation policy of the state. The other members of the search committee include one from the law department and one from the personnel department.

He informed that it was also recommended that the expert committee should be a five-member committee and should have experts from different fields as was mentioned in the notification.
The CM said that the search committee will start their work immediately and “hopefully they will give the names to the government at the earliest”.
According to him, the search committee will look into the demand for inclusion of members from the state in the expert committee.
