Police nabs notorious drug peddler in Shillong

Shillong, Aug 26: In a major breakthrough, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the East Jaintia Hills District Police arrested two persons including a notorious drug peddler from Shillong and seized a significant quantity of heroin at Umkiang village.

11 soap boxes containing 137.86 grams of heroin were recovered from the possession of Hajrat Umar (28), a resident of Kaliachak, West Bengal during a naka at Umkiang police patrol post, police said.

On his leading, the team arrested more person identified as Phulchand Ali, a notorious drug peddler from Lum Survey, Shillong, who is also involved in this inter-state transportation of drugs.

A case has been registered at Lumshnong Police Station under the NDPS Act, and investigation is underway to uncover the network and source of the seized heroin.
