SHILLONG, APR 27: The Pynursla Civil Sub-Division has imposed a ban on trucks and vehicles carrying loads above 9 metric tonnes over the Dawki Bridge, citing safety risks and potential collapse of the structure.
The prohibitory order was issued by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Gautam Warjri under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and is in force with immediate effect across the entire jurisdiction of Pynursla Civil Sub-Division.
Citing a report from the Assistant Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), Pynursla Sub-Division dated February 11, 2026, the order states, “the load bearing capacity of boulders/goods-laden trucks and commercial vehicles plying over the Dawki bridge need to be restricted to a maximum of 9.00 (nine) metric tonnes.”
The order notes that trucks “are carrying boulders / goods well and over the maximum permissible limit of 9.00 (nine) metric tonnes in complete disregard to the Prohibitory Order (s) issued on June 12, 2024 and June 24, 2019.”
“Violations of such a degree, if not deterred and regulated, may lead to incidents resulting in the collapse of such bridges with the resultant effect of a connectivity shut-down and further endangering human lives and resources,” the order warned.
“Now, therefore, with the considered view to prevent further deterioration of the bridge and road, I… hereby pass this Prohibitory Order prohibiting any driver, person, owner, etc. from plying overloaded trucks/vehicles carrying loads/ materials well above the permissible limit of 9.00 (nine) metric tonnes through Dawki Bridge,” the order stated.
“Any violation thereof shall be dealt with strictly in accordance with the Motor Vehicles(MV) act, 1988 and other provisions of the law,” it added.
