SHILLONG, MAY 11: NPP national vice president and Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar has said there has been “no communication” or “signal” regarding TMC leader and Opposition leader Mukul Sangma joining the NPP, while adding that the party remains “very flexible” to new entrants.

“Right now, there is no communication to me and actually I don’t know. Till today there is no signal at all,” Dhar said when asked about the speculation.

“You know NPP is a party which is very flexible, we welcome anybody who wants to join, there is no issue on that.”

He clarified that there have been no discussions on the matter. “There is no talk on that with the TMC leaders on that,” he said.

On suggestions that the speculation stemmed from the NPP and TMC working together in the GHADC, Dhar said political cooperation does not imply a merger.

“Sometimes, political parties come together for the betterment of the state always in any issues,” he said.

“It does not mean that if they work with the NPP in Garo Hills, they will merge with the NPP, that is not.”

“For the interest of the people of the state sometimes we as politicians and lawmakers, we have to work together,” Dhar added.
