Aizawl, July 22: Tensions flared on Friday in Aizawl as supporters of the newly formed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Mizoram staged a protest in front of the State BJP office, citing the BJP’s alleged responsibility for a recent horrific incident in Manipur. The clash between the two political groups resulted in minor injuries to the members.

The demonstration was organised by AAP Mizoram in response to an incident in Manipur, which they claim the BJP is responsible for. Additionally, the AAP criticised the central government’s alleged inaction in addressing the situation in Manipur.

The peaceful protest, initially marked by verbal confrontations, quickly devolved into a physical altercation as workers from both parties engaged in pushing and attacking each other.

Police personnel, present at the scene, quickly intervened and managed to bring the situation under control. However, minor injuries were reported as a result of the scuffle.

Responding to the clash, AAP Mizoram accused the BJP of initiating violence upon their arrival at the protest site. In contrast, BJP State President, Vanlalhmuaka, admonished AAP Mizoram, stating that resorting to violent protests in Mizoram, especially in front of offices, is not acceptable and is a rare occurrence in the state.

Following the incident, the state BJP filed an FIR at the local Police station, alleging that AAP organised a public gathering without obtaining permission from the Deputy Commissioner (DC). Moreover, the BJP claimed that AAP used public address systems without authorization and blocked a public road near Raj Bhawan for an extended period, which they argued could pose security concerns.
