Shillong, July 19: Meghalaya’s rising singing star Kitkupar Nongsiej has created history by becoming the only contestant from India to qualify for the Grand Finale of the World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA) 2026 in Las Vegas, USA.

The young vocalist from Kynshi village in Eastern West Khasi Hills district secured his place in the final after an impressive performance in the semi-finals on July 18. The results, announced after the competition, confirmed his entry into the championship round of what is widely regarded as the “Olympics of Performing Arts.”

The Grand Finale, scheduled for July 20, will feature the highest-scoring performers from across the world competing for the coveted title of Grand Champion Performer of the World.

Kitkupar has emerged as one of the standout performers of Team India, impressing judges with his vocal ability and stage presence through the preliminary and semi-final rounds.

His journey to the global stage began after winning Ka Sur Kynud Season 3, Meghalaya’s premier singing competition organised by the Don Bosco Media Network (DBMN). He later earned a place in Team India after clearing the international online auditions for WCOPA.

Reacting to his qualification, Kitkupar described it as a dream come true.

“Qualifying for the Grand Finale of WCOPA is a proud moment not only for me but for Meghalaya and India. I thank Almighty God, my parents, mentors, the Don Bosco Media Network and everyone who has supported and prayed for me,” he said.

Regardless of the outcome of the final, Kitkupar’s remarkable run at WCOPA has already established him as one of the region’s brightest young musical talents and placed Meghalaya in the global spotlight.
