Meghalaya Police appoints nodal officer to restore movement along Assam border

SHILLONG, AUG 24: Meghalaya Police has appointed a nodal officer to resolve the stalemate in transportation along the Assam-Meghalaya border and to ensure free movement of vehicles and people between the two states.

According to an order issued from the office of the Additional Director General of Police, Special Branch, Meghalaya, DySP (Security) B Nongsiej has been designated as the nodal officer for the purpose.

He will coordinate with all districts in Meghalaya and with counterparts in Assam to facilitate smooth transit.

The order states that details of vehicles stranded in Assam and Meghalaya will be shared with the Meghalaya SB Control Room in Shillong, which will forward the information to the concerned district police for providing assistance and escorts.

All district Superintendents of Police in Meghalaya have been directed to remain in touch with Assam Police for providing escorts to vehicles and people proceeding towards Assam and for vehicles coming from Assam into Meghalaya.

The police headquarters has also shared contact numbers of nodal officers and control rooms of both states, including SP (Zonal) Assam Rajendra Ojah (9707081768), DySP (Security) Meghalaya B Nongsiej (9863060830), and the SB Control Room, Shillong (9774618462) and Control Room, Assam (9181014888), to streamline coordination.

The order, issued by the Inspector General of Police (SB), Meghalaya, will come into effect immediately and remain in force until further orders.
