ura, Jan 13: After a terrible start to their Meghalaya Games 2024 campaign in the football arena on Thursday, Garo Hills got a good reason to cheer on Saturday as the U-18 Boys’ West Garo Hills team hammered 5 goals against South West Khasi Hills to register a convincing win.

Tura couldn’t have asked for a better start to their camping in the mega sporting event as the home team gave nothing away to the visitors on their home turf at Govt Boy’s Higher School Playground, Chandmari, Tura.

South West Khasi Hills played well in hopes of salvaging some pride by scoring atleast one goal but West Garo Hills’ defence was too much of a fortress for them to breach. The match ended with the scoreboard reading 5 – 0.

South West Khasi Hills had won the opener match of the U-18 Boy’s Football Division of 5th Meghalaya Games 2024 on Thursday against South Garo Hills by 6 – 1. Another win would have ensured that they were through to the Semi-finals. Now, they will keep a close watch on West Garo Hills’ next match with South Garo Hills and the goal difference.

West Garo Hills too would be eyeing the semi-final berth and would like to ride high on Saturday’s win for a high scoring game against the regional rivals.
