SHILLONG, DEC 4: Former Speaker of Manipur Assembly Irengbam Hemochandra Singh has been appointed as national vice president of the National People’s Party (NPP) with immediate effect for the tenure 2025-2028.

A notification in this regard was issued by the NPP national president and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday.

Singh entered politics after his father (L) Tompok Singh’s untimely death in a plane crash in 1991. He got elected as an MLA against his father’s vacant seat – at age 26 – and has won five assembly elections so far.
