SHILLONG, AUG 21: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has altered its agitation plan and decided to meet all 60 legislators ahead of the Assembly session beginning August 24, instead of taking out a procession and holding a sit-in demonstration at Khyndailad.
Informing this on Friday, former KSU president Lambokstar Marngar said, “Today we have shifted our approach. Today it is only about going to meet all 60 MLAs to submit a memorandum reminding them to raise the issue in this Assembly session.”
He said the sit-in at Khyndailad stands cancelled after the district administration withdrew permission.
“Since the permission has been revoked by the DC, we will no longer hold the sit-in demonstration at Khyndailad,” Marngar said.
He, however, asserted that the agitation would continue.
“We will continue with our agitations. We will sit and decide on other forms of protest to hold,” he added.
The union’s five-point charter includes action against the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, senior police officials and MSPCB officers for allegedly preventing public participation and “pre-arranging” the July 31 public hearing for Shree Cement in East Jaintia Hills.
The other demands are full implementation of the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016 until the Inner Line Permit is enforced, setting up of facilitation centres at all 18 entry points in Khasi-Jaintia Hills with verification only by Dorbar Shnong, enforcement of the amended Migrant Workmen Act, 2020, recruitment reforms in NEIGRIHMS including 80:20 female-male ratio for nurses and reservation for locals, and removal of interviews for Grade B, C and D posts along with SOPs for all recruitment boards.
