HYC urges tourists to preserve Sohra’s natural beauty

SHILLONG, OCT 18: The Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) has issued a public appeal to tourists visiting Sohra and the Khasi-Jaintia Hills region to preserve the natural beauty and delicate ecosystem of the area.

The HYC has outlined a set of guidelines, “Do’s” and “Don’ts”, to promote responsible tourism and minimize environmental impact.

It has requested visitors to dispose of waste responsibly using designated bins and facilities, respect local environment and customs, use eco-friendly products such as reusable bags and water bottles, keep public areas clean and avoid littering, familiarize themselves with local regulations and rules for waste management and environmental conservation.

The HYC also highlighted activities that are strictly prohibited, including littering in public areas and roads, damaging flora and fauna, polluting rivers, lakes, and other water bodies. removing natural materials such as rocks and plants and using public roads for cooking, picnicking, and dining.

It emphasizes the importance of collaboration in preserving the natural beauty of Sohra and ensuring its sustainability for future generations. By following these guidelines, visitors can contribute to the conservation of the region’s fragile ecosystem.

The HYC urged tourists to “explore with purpose, protect with passion” and “take only memories, leave only footprints” in the region.
