Shillong, April 27: In a significant development, authorities in East Jaintia Hills District conducted a checkpoint operation at Rattachera Check Post, resulting in the seizure of heroin valued at ₹7.2 crores.
During the inspection of a Mahindra pick-up truck without proper registration, officers discovered a black plastic drum containing 84 soap cases filled with yellowish/orange powder suspected to be heroin.
The driver, identified as Nehtinmang Haokip (36), confessed to transporting the contraband from Churachandpur, Manipur to Shillong. The seized heroin, weighing approximately 900 grams, along with the vehicle and a mobile phone, has been confiscated as part of the operation.
Haokip has been detained, and charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act are being pursued against him.
