SHILLONG, MAY 13: Minister in-charge Community & Rural Development AT Mondal on Monday informed that he has sought the intervention of the ministry into the problems related to the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS).

Speaking to reporters, Mondal said, “I had already shot one letter highlighting all those problems. Hopefully, after the elections all these issues will be resolved.”

Stating that the payment system is one of the big problems, he said, “This is creating a lot of problems for us as many of the job card holders have not linked their job card with Aadhaar. Now the government of India has made it mandatory to have all job cards to be linked with Aadhaar.”

“We requested the chief minister to write to the concerned minister and he has already written and very recently I had again written to him. This is one challenging factor we have to see till all the job cards are being linked to Aadhaar,” he said.

On the issue regarding the material component funds, Mondal said, “We used to release our share on time but it depends on how the money is being released from Delhi. This time election is running for two months now so it is very difficult to coordinate in Delhi also. Let us see after the model code of conduct. But we have flagged all issues and a major portion of money is coming from Delhi so unless that is released we cannot go ahead with this.”
