SHILLONG, AUG 3: The district administration of East Khasi Hills has warned that any individual or group found to be directly or indirectly involved in Monday’s petrol bomb attack on the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board office will face strict legal action.
According to a statement issued by the Deputy Commissioner, two unidentified masked persons hurled a petrol bomb towards the MPCB premises at Lumpyngad around 12:10 PM.
Preliminary police reports stated that the device struck the outer wall of the building.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported. The damage to property was also minimal, with only slight discoloration noticed on the wall. The assailants fled immediately after the incident.
The District Police have registered a criminal case and launched an intensive probe.
Authorities said forensic evidence is being analyzed and local surveillance footage is being reviewed to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The administration described the act as one that undermines public safety and the rule of law, and assured that such incidents will be dealt with swiftly under the law.
It has also appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified rumors. Anyone with relevant information or video footage has been asked to contact the Office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills District. The administration assured that informants’ details will be kept strictly confidential.
