Tura, Oct 11: Although the Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2024 campaign has concluded, Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, on Friday participated in a cleaning and beautification drive in Tura town, reminding everyone that maintaining cleanliness is not for a day or few days or for a campaign but a continues process and an quintessential virtue that all should have.
The Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign began on September 17 and concluded on October 2.
The CM took part in the cleaning drive at Tura Super Market Complex, where he painted a wall as well.
“We are doing this to promote cleanliness of our towns and cities. We want our community to get involved, our officials to get involved, government people to get involved, so that we do small things. But these small things can help us make our towns and cities more beautiful,” he should while white-washing the boundary wall of the complex.
“Basic cleanliness is important, but what is also important is that our walls should be painted. We would like to see all government spaces, on the main road, all the private buildings, everybody should take initiative to paint their walls. So, if everybody paints their own walls, their boundary walls, I think our Tura town will look much better. Similarly, Shillong and Jowai should follow,” he further expressed.
Also present during the occasion were Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills and other officers from the district administration and Tura Municipal Board.
The CM also took a walk across the town where he pointed out specific locations that needed attention of the officials. He underscored the need to start the initiative somewhere so that others could follow.
