Guwahati, May 11: Ahead of the formation of the new Assam government, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday unveiled key priorities for the NDA 3.0 administration, promising large-scale entrepreneurship support for the state’s youth and a phased wage hike for tea garden workers.
In a series of posts on X, Sarma said the government was committed to building an “Atmanirbhar Assam” by encouraging entrepreneurship, boosting local economic growth and creating employment opportunities.
The chief minister announced that the government would provide entrepreneurship support of ₹5 lakh each to 10 lakh youths across Assam as part of its youth empowerment initiative.
“‘Atmanirbhar Assam’ by encouraging entrepreneurship, boosting local economic growth, and creating employment opportunities for the youth,” Sarma wrote, adding, “A Better Future is not a promise, It is our mission.”
Sarma also highlighted the NDA government’s focus on Assam’s tea community, stating that the alliance would continue welfare measures for tea garden workers in its third term.
“For the last 10 years, the NDA Government has worked for the holistic development of Assam’s Cha Shramiks, who are the backbone of our 200-year-old tea legacy. In #NDA3.0, we will further strengthen the lives and livelihoods of every Cha Shramiks with a phased wage increase to ₹500,” he said.
The announcements come a day before the swearing-in ceremony of the new Assam government scheduled for May 12, where Sarma and the new NDA cabinet will take oath in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several senior BJP and NDA leaders.
The NDA has returned to power in Assam for a third consecutive term after securing a decisive mandate in the recently concluded Assembly elections. In the 126-member Assembly, the alliance won 102 seats, with the Bharatiya Janata Party emerging as the dominant force with 82 seats. Its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad and the Bodoland Peoples Front, secured 10 seats each.
