SHILLONG, SEPT 20: Three suspected Bangladeshi nationals were nabbed by the Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) Jowai Circle at Lad Demthring on Sunday.
The three were caught travelling in a white tourist vehicle (ML 04 E 3485) registered in the name of Treibor Kyndait of Shkenpyrsit.
The JSU claimed that during document verification, the trio confessed to being Bangladeshi nationals.
They were later dragged to Jowai Police Station and handed over to police.
An FIR was filed.
In a sensational claim, the JSU alleged that brokers of the illegal network tried to buy their way out, offering lakhs of rupees to release the suspects.
“We were offered bribes amounting to lakhs of rupees to secure the release of the perpetrators. We categorically rejected it and went ahead with the FIR,”JSU education secretary Bocheru Mi Pohsnem said.
“The JSU stands resolute and will not allow perpetrators of illegal immigration to go unpunished. We demand a comprehensive and immediate police investigation to ensure this cross-border network is completely dismantled,” he said.
