SHILLONG, SEPT 20: As many as 127 youth in Shillong received appointment letters on Saturday as the 20th Rozgar Mela was held at 45 locations across the country, where over 51,000 appointment letters were distributed. With this, the total beneficiaries under Rozgar Mela has touched about 12.75 lakh.
The Shillong programme was held at the State Convention Centre where Union Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles Pabitra Margherita was present. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the newly appointed candidates through video conferencing.
The 127 candidates in Shillong will join various departments including Income Tax Department, Indian Railways, India Post and other sectors.
Addressing the gathering, Margherita congratulated the newly appointed youth and their families and said the appointment letters mark not merely the beginning of a career but the beginning of a journey of service, responsibility and nation-building.
He highlighted the immense potential of the Northeast and said improved connectivity and infrastructure are creating an ecosystem where young people can study, work, innovate and build their futures within the region.
The development of the Northeast is integral to the development of the nation and the newly appointed youth should contribute to India’s future with dedication, integrity and a strong sense of public service, he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the newly appointed candidates and their families, acknowledging the hard work of the youth and the sacrifices of their parents.
He said the young people joining government service have an important role in achieving the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
He urged the new recruits to take decisions that strengthen Viksit Bharat and Atmanirbhar Bharat, keeping citizens and their aspirations at the centre of their work. Every government decision should help remove obstacles and create opportunities for citizens, he said.
Highlighting India’s growing employment and entrepreneurship ecosystem, Modi noted the expansion of the country’s startup ecosystem, particularly in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, and the increasing participation of women and youth in entrepreneurship.
He also highlighted initiatives related to skill development, apprenticeships and employment generation.
He stressed the importance of transparent and accessible recruitment processes, including examinations in regional languages and facilities such as choice of examination centres. He also highlighted Mission Karmayogi, through which more than 1.72 crore users have registered for continuous learning and capacity building.
Emphasising citizen-centric governance, the Prime Minister urged the new recruits to continuously improve their skills and understand new technologies and systems and said the real strength of the government lies in the trust of citizens.
Calling upon the newly appointed employees to follow the principle of “Nagarik Devo Bhava”, Modi said service to citizens is service to the nation. He expressed confidence that the new recruits would discharge their responsibilities with dedication, sensitivity, efficiency and honesty.
The programme was organised by the Office of the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Shillong.
It was attended by Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Shillong Darzakhum Songate, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, North East Region Ningreirum Longvah and Principal Commissioner of Income Tax, Shillong K. Meghanath Chowhan along with newly appointed candidates and officials from various departments.
